Yaz woke up early in the morning feeling much better. The pain was almost gone, at least for now, and she felt finally rested. She looked around the room and smiled, her eyes filling with tears as she saw the Doctor sitting in an armchair with a baby tucked inside her T-shirt like a koala, sleeping peacefully on her chest. She was brushing her thumb over her back and humming some song Yaz never heard before. 

 

"Hey" she whispered. 

 

"Hey mummy.... morning" she grinned and pointed exited to the baby "She's been like this for hours, I fell asleep, just woke up and I'm dying to pee." 

 

Yaz giggled "Oh boy...You look beautiful though...Two tiny hearts against two big ones." 

"It's so amazing to feel her like this." 

 

"Well, it was about time" she giggled. 

 

Doctor scrunched her nose "Getting there...had a long conversation with her. Told her she needs to be patient with me, but I'll get there in the end" 

 

"Come on...give her here and go pee" she reached her arms up 

 

She slowly passed her the baby and kissed her forehead "God's Yaz...I'm still in daze.... this is so unreal...She talks in her sleep like you." 

 

Yaz giggled "Go and pee you will explode." 

 

"Uh..yes" she ran to the bathroom 

 

"She's sleeping a lot...Is that normal?" Yaz looked down at her and couldn't believe she was completely out of it like that. She expected a lot more crying even through the night. 

 

"Totally normal..." Doctor said coming out of the bathroom "And all her energy needs to settle. It's normal to have about three days of sleep until it all settles." 

 

"Three days?...That's a lot" 

 

"I checked her...she's a healthy baby...just needs to rest that's all." 

 

"I'll need a shower." 

 

"It's fine Yaz I'll help you...Are you hungry?" 

 

"Not yet...but I will be...Were you up all night?" 

 

"Neah...just 3 times...she just needed a cuddle oh and she did her business, so I changed her" 

 

"Oh did she? Good...Well she's dozing off and eating at the same time" Yaz giggled looking down "There's definitely plenty there" she laughed. 

 

"I’ll have to check you later...just to make sure everything is ok, do some blood work and some other bits and pieces." 

 

"Alright babe" 

 

Someone knocked on a door and Doctor ran to open. 

 

"Morning" she smiled to Nadjia "Come in." 

 

"Morning" she smiled "How are you all doing? You didn't call me last night?" 

 

"No, I managed...can you believe it...me managing a baby.” 

 

"Oh, she's becoming a pro mum.” 

 

"Told you you’ll be fine...Hey sweetheart...How are you doing?" She leaned over kissing Yaz's forehead then bushed her finger over babies’ cheek "My God look at her, healthy appetite." 

 

"Oh, definitely. I'm better but I really need a shower" she frowned "I feel horrible." 

 

"I'll take her if you want. Everyone is dying to see her anyway. But for now, let her eat. It's good that she has an appetite. You have loads of messages coming up that dashboard Doctor...It's been pinging all morning" Najia laughed. 

 

"Oh...well, it can wait.” 

 

"Ryan picked up a message from Kate...she sends all her love to all three of you." 

 

"Ryan was touching my console" Doctor frowned "I'll kill him...Maybe...or maybe I'll just leave it for now." 

 

"Well ...I think she's done for now...she eats like 10 minutes at the time" Yaz looked down "Then she falls asleep again." she giggled. 

 

"Well, that's definitely on you Yaz" Doctor grinned "You can sleep through the cyberman invasion." 

 

"I won't argue that one" she giggled. 

 

"Alright...I'll take her so you can get yourself sorted. We're all in the library. Oh, we left some food on the stove for you. Not really breakfast but you should eat something proper Yaz." 

 

"I agree on that" Doctor nodded "You need strength." 

 

"By the way...did you two pick a name for this child?" 

 

Yaz burst out laughing "Of course we have mum..." 

 

"Anaya" Doctor said proudly. 

 

"Waaaw...that's a beautiful name." 

 

"It has different meanings" Doctor said “...my favorite one is a gift." 

 

"She's definitely a gift" Nadjia said.

"Thanks mum" Yaz passed her the baby and Najia went out of the room smiling all the way. 

 

"I don't think I've ever seen my mum so happy...Cuddle" she opened her arms. 

 

The Doctor returned to the bed and pulled her into her arms. Yaz stared at her and smiled so happily with the dreamiest look in her eyes. 

 

"What?" The Doctor smiled back at her. 

 

"Me love you" Yaz said haply, and Doctor stroked her face gently. 

 

"You're so amazing Yaz...so amazing" she kissed her gently "I couldn't do what you did...I'm being honest...Not through my body. That was so brilliant, but so scary Yaz and you just did it" 

 

"We did it together" she kissed her chest and rubbed her face into her neck. 

 

She trailed her finger down the back of Yaz's neck "Just when I think I can't love you any more...and then I surprise myself." 

 

Yaz looked up at her softly "Same here" she smiled and Doctor sprinkled kisses over her face then took her lips into hers. Her kisses so different now, so gentle and slow and Yaz soaked into each one of them. 

 

She lay her head on her chest listening to her hearts, still beating faster than usual, and melting into her gentle hands trailing down her back. She caressed her as if she was made of glass, as if she was afraid that she would break. The fingers touched her barely, but were there nevertheless, her safest place in the universe. They both fell silent for a while, and she knew they both felt the same, trying to figure it all out, what their lives were like now, something neither of them had ever believed possible, but somewhere deep down wished for. 

 

"Come on mummy" Doctor whispered placing a long kiss to the top of her head "...let's get you sorted before the baby needs you again...Something tells me we don't have much time.” 

 

... 

 

"Are you okay Yaz?" She asked worriedly Yaz stepped out of the shower, and she was wiping her. "Hold on to me..." she said crouching to wipe her legs. 

 

"I am... I’m fine...honest. Just a little bit dizzy that's all. That felt so nice." 

 

She placed a long kiss on her stomach and gazed up, her eyes filled with worry she was trying to hide "Your body went through a lot. It will take time...But hey...surprise.... We have time now." 

 

"Well, that's a change...Where are we anyway?" 

 

"Temporal zone...It's the safest place. I'll take us home when I make sure you're both fine." 

 

She helped her into a clean nightie, showered her face with small kisses and blew air into her neck making her giggle, then braided her hair and put on her dressing gown. "Feeling better?" 

 

"Oh god, do I... I feel human again...Now I'm hungry." 

 

"Come on...let's go slowly to the kitchen. You need to walk.... sorry I know it's not easy, but you have to.” 

 

"Relax babe I'm not made out of sugar.” 

 

"I'll always argue that one Yaz" she said helping her to slowly walk down the hallway towards the kitchen. 

 

"What about Anaya?" 

 

"I'm sure she she's fine with your mum Yaz...she knows where we are if she needs us." 

 

To her own surprise the first few steps were hard, but the rest went quite well. She walked down the hallway relatively slow stopping a few times along the way when she would get the odd cramp in her tummy. She was still very sore and her whole body felt like someone had beaten her up. But the Doctor was there every step of the way, and she didn't care if the entire universe was falling down at this point. 

 

"Mmmmm...wait" Yaz wrapped her arm around her waist and leaned her forehead on her chest. 

 

"Wanna go back Yaz? I can bring you food to bed" Doctor cupped the back of her head gently. 

 

"No... I have to walk...I can do this." 

 

"Just slowly, and you need to tell me iff you feel dizzy...you're very weak Yaz so slowly." 

 

"Mmmm...I will...come on...I'm dreaming of food" she smiled and continued "Look at us" she giggled. "We went from chasing Daleks to this." 

 

"I don't wanna chase Daleks, thank you very much Yaz...I rather have this any day...fine with me if I never see them again." 

 

There was a small table waiting for her in a corner of the kitchen, and next to it a big wooden chair filled with soft cushions. It looked like a comfy rocking chair padded from all the sides. 

 

"Waaaw...thanks for that" she looked up "that's so sweet of your old girl." 

 

"Your dad made something nice" Doctor peaked into the pot "It looks like a nice thick soup." 

 

"I'll eat anything...I'm starving." 

 

"That smells lovely I might have some as well" she said taking the plates out. 

 

"Hey, you two...How's a new mum? " Ryan came in and went straight to hug her. 

 

"Hey mate ...like I was hit by a bus" she laughs. 

 

"Yaz she's brilliant...you got a baby you two" he smiled and kissed the top of her head. 

 

"I know can you believe it." 

 

"And how is the other mum?" He nudged the Doctor's shoulder. 

 

"Shocked..." she said waiving a wooden spoon "Still confused...but getting there...want some food?" 

 

"Yeah, why not...are you cooking now as well Doctor?" 

 

"Oh, this was not me Ryan...Hakim made it...But I can cook I have you know...Juice darling?" 

 

"Yes please...Is she still sleeping Ryan?" 

 

"Yeah....nocked out on sofa in a library next to your dad. She's so cute, and so small" he laughed "She's still glowing though...man, that reminds me of you Doctor. You were glowing like that the first night when you fell asleep on a sofa. Nan me were so confused." 

 

"Did I? You never told me that Ryan." 

 

"Never got around to it I guess...and then some of that just flew out in the air." 

 

"Mmmm" Doctor nodded putting glasses on the table "Once I regenerated, I sleep five days straight...it's very important." 

 

"Yeah, but as long as she eats, that's all I'm worried about" Yaz said 

 

"She will...don't worry...once we eat, I'll go and get her...Besides I already miss her" she grins haply. 

 

"Ufff..." Yaz frowned in pain. 

 

"You alright?" Doctor jumped. 

 

"Fine fine...chill out..." she puts her hand out "Just cramps...Aaarrrhh...I forgot what that's like." 

 

"Right...stay here Yaz" she ran out of the kitchen before Yaz could say anything. 

 

"I was gonna go for run, but alright" she chuckled. 

 

"Is she alright?" Ryan asked. 

 

"Sort of...I think it's hitting her just now...She's besides herself from happiness bless her" she smiled "Ahh…fuck…that really hurts." 

 

"It must do, I never heard you swear Yaz" Ryan grabbed her hand "Hey tell me what you like about your baby?" 

 

"Are you trying to distract me Ryan?" 

 

"Absolutely...go on tell me." 

 

"Eyes...god, did you see them Ryan...so pretty." 

 

"I didn't, she keeps sleeping." 

 

"They're blue...but really blue...like the most beautiful sky...I never saw eyes like hers in my life." 

 

"How are they blue? Yours are brown and Doctor's are...what are the Doctor's eyes like?" 

 

"Hazel Ryan...blimey" 

 

"Hey... I'm not the one gazing at her like you do Yaz." 

 

"Anyways...Doctor says its probably artron energy..." 

 

"Will they stay like that?" 

 

"Dunno...maybe...Mum says baby’s eyes can change later.” 

 

"Hey" Doctor flew back into the kitchen "C'mere darling...this will help with the pain.” 

 

"Please yes...anything" she moved her braid from her neck so she can give her a shot "But that can't hurt the baby? " 

 

"Of course, not...don't worry...Here we go" she smiled and dropped a kiss to her hair "It will relax the muscles. Eat your food now.” 

 

"Doctor what will you do now when the baby is here? You can't exactly go flying around sorting stuff around the universe." 

 

"No Ryan I can't. One step at a time...I guess I will have to deal with it when it happens. In a mean time, we are staying put. Universe exited way before me, and it will way after me" she sat down at the table. 

 

"I suppose you’re right. It's about time you have some peace...I guess...Oh you have a message form Kate." 

 

"I know...and I hear you've been touching my console" she raised her eyebrows. 

 

"Sorry...sorry" 

 

"Only joking Ryan" she nudged his shoulder "Thanks for picking that up for me...just don't touch anything else, wouldn't want any accidents." 

 

"I won't.... You have loads of messages." 

 

"That nice..." 

 

"But how do people know?" He asked confused. 

 

"Oooh....I might have WhatsApp few people." 

 

"You what?" Yaz darted at her. 

 

"Only a few Yaz...and sent few photos." 

 

"Dooooctoooor!" 

 

"I had to..."

It had been almost two weeks since the baby was born, and the chronic lack of sleep was now affecting them both. Even the Doctor struggled with having to wake up almost every half hour. Now, somehow the baby no longer slept in the bassinet, but slowly found her way to their bed, and during the day she was being passed around from one person to another, hardly spending time alone at all. 

 

It was early morning, and the baby was suddenly wide awake, so they both gave up on sleeping in spite of being knackered. Yaz was taking a shower trying to keep herself awake whilst Doctor was on a nappy changing mission. 

 

"Aaaaa....got ya!!" She grinned tickling her tummy then waived the angel toy again ".... Don’t blink!... Aaaaaa.... got ya again" she hunched blowing air to her tummy 

 

"What are you doing" Yaz laughed walking in on them "She's just two weeks old?" 

 

"It's never too early to start learning Yaz." 

 

"She loves that toy by the way....and that Dalek you made her" she laughs. 

 

"I knoooow...It's her favourite" Doctor slumps her shoulders sort of disappointed. 

 

"You silly goof" she smiled popping kiss to her lips then turned to her baby "Silly mummy" she leaned over playing with Anaya's tiny toes "Mmm...popcorn foot" she chuckled popping a kiss to it. 

 

"I have to clean the filters in the heating system" Doctor said continuing to dress the baby "Snow is falling heavier, soon we will be stuck. We need to keep the Tardis warmer than ever. Ryan will help me...please pass me her jumper Yaz." 

 

"I'm gonna take her for a walk whilst you're doing that. I promised Sonya, I'll show her around and Anaya needs some fresh air." 

 

"Alright...but don't be too long. Its really cold outside" 

 

"Only a short walk .... Just make sure you dress her well." she sighed leaning on her back kissing her should "Oh babe, It's so nice to be home finally" 

 

"I must admit I'm really enjoying this... it took a baby to finally have a break" she smiled brushing her thumb over her cheek "Yes...all because of you munchkin, or we would be still flying around sorting stuff out...Oh look Yaz she smiled." 

 

"She's so cute.... she’s changing by the day. And she looks more like you now." 

 

"Nooo...I don't think she does, she has your nose and those long lashes of yours..." 

 

Yaz exhaled rubbing her face against her back. It almost seemed as though the world had calmed down for a while and she loved that silence. She enjoyed waking up next to this woman she absolutely adored and feeling her baby's breath on her neck. The Doctor also changed, no longer tinkering around her Tardis, and pretending the universe outside didn't exist. If only for a while it was beautiful.

She was ready and waiting for her sister by the door. Anaya strapped around her chest and tucked inside her warm winter jacket which Tardis specially made for her. Her little face peaking underneath the warm fluffy hat with dog ears, special gift arriving from Karvanista. 

 

"Remember Yaz, not for long....she is still very little, and her body temperature is a lot lower than yours" Doctor fussed tucking her hat on "Also, you’re still healing yourself mummy. Maybe I can do those filters later."

 

"Nooo...it's alright...seriously babe we're fine." 

 

"Did I put that cream on her face?" 

 

"I did...chill babe." 

 

"If you're weak or dizzy you come back or call me...Oh and remember if her nose goes really read...." Yaz giggled pulling her, the only sure way to shut her up was kissing her. So, she did exactly that by dropping a random deep kiss to her lips. "I know" she smiled into her lips "...take a deep breath...love ya" she smiled and tucked her hair behind her ears. 

 

"Love you too...just worried about you both...that's all...oh...one more thing" she fumbled through her pocket. 

 

"Sonic?" Yaz looked confused. 

 

"Just in case Yaz...take it" 

 

"Are you sure?" 

 

"Absolutely...remember, anything wrong and I'm there in a second" 

 

"I know baby...we're gonna be fine...Pleaseeee breath" she brushed her knuckles across her face riddled with worry. 

 

"Ready?" Sonya chirped haply hopping down the stairs. 

 

"Yap!" 

 

"Loook....I got new snow boots from the Tardis" she posed exited against the banister. 

 

"Aaaa...Those are nice" Doctor smiled. 

 

"Alright babe...we're off" Yaz said and opened the door. 

 

"Alright" Doctor pouted her lips reluctantly and kissed her temple "See you soon...have a nice time...." The door shut and the Doctor swirled on a heel. "They're only around the corner...maybe I should've? ...Neah...that's way too possessive...They'll be fine" she scrunched her nose swigging around the console "Yeeeah...an hour or so is just gonna fly by...always does... 

 

It was the first time she let them go on their own, and suddenly she felt the kind of anxiety she hadn't known before. 

 

"Morning" Ryan yelled from the top of the stairs "I'm ready if you are."

 

"Aaaa, morning Ryan...definitely ready" she hopped across the control room

Yaz led them along a familiar path through the forest. It was a beautiful day, and the snow was shining bathed in the sun. It was getting deeper every day, and she knew that very soon she wouldn't be able to go far outside until the spring. 

 

"Hey look" Sonya pointed at a strange big bird with a red crest on top of its head. 

 

"It's beautiful, they make a really loud noise at night...It freaked me out the first time" Yaz said "Look Anaya...big bird darling" she pointed. 

 

"Neah...she's dozing off" Sonya laughed "Also, can babies see that far." 

 

"Nooo" Yaz laughed "I just like talking to her...She must think I'm crazy, also she's mostly sleeping when she's not eating." 

 

"Except she's eating every hour" Sonya laughed. 

 

"More like every half hour...I'm soooo tiered...I’ve never  been  so tiered in my life, we both are" 

 

"You look it...Why don't you give her to me or mum. Get some sleep.” 

 

"I can't Sonya...I'm still breastfeeding." 

 

"Can't you just pop it in the bottle or something?" 

 

"I could but...I dunno, we sort of decided we want this for her. She can feel me this way it's special" she smiled. 

 

"I suppose you're right." 

 

"I like it...it's exhausting, but this is the only time I'll have that with her and never again." 

 

"That's true...just thought if I could help, you know." 

 

"I knoooow" she hooked her arm into hers and kissed her cheek "You've been really great, you know that." 

 

"With what?" She frowned. 

 

"Everything...Just...you know...being there for me...and for her...She may not think she needs it, most of the time...but she does." 

 

"Why is that?" 

 

"She's used to doing things alone most of her life Sonya. People come and go, pass by, even die, but she needs to keep going." 

 

"That's horrible, so sad...Well, not anymore!" She smiled "She's got you and her." 

 

"Even I'm just a second for her...Anaya is forever." 

 

She sighed looking at the snow covered trees. It was quiet, just the odd bird in the distance making a noise. 

 

"Hey look" Yaz pointed in front of them smiling. 

 

"What am I looking at?" 

 

"Come Sonya" she spead up her steps "Over here..." she turned towards the valley as her heart jumped with excitement. "God, I missed this place so much." 

 

"Waaaaaw" Sonya's eyes widened as she came to the end of the path "That's fucking awesome...No wonder you like it here." 

 

"I'm so happy here Sonya...this is my home" she turned beaming "Our home" she placed her hand on Anaya's head "Welcome home beautiful." 

 

"It's fucking stunning. You got a planet to yourself...how cool is that. I'm jealous" she laughed. 

 

The sound of branches cracking startled them both. 

 

"What was that?" Sonya stilled frightened. 

 

Yaz slowly reached into pocket taking a sonic and carefully turned around. Then sighed relieved seeing one of the local deer behind the tree. 

 

"It's fine...look" she grabbed her sleeve and turned her around. 

 

"OMG...what's that?" 

 

"It's like a deer...stunning isn't it?...They're harmless" 

 

"It's not afraid?" 

 

"Nooo...nothing here is. They never saw people Sonya. They don't understand." 

 

"Their eyes" 

 

"I know, beautiful." 

 

"Their eyes are like Anaya’s." 

 

"What?" 

 

"Look...same blue Yaz...like hers.” 

 

"OMG...I didn't even...You're right...What the..." 

 

"Do you think it's somehow connected?" 

 

"Dunno...maybe..." she frowned "You made me think now Sonya.” 

 

"Did you... you know...make her here?" She laughed. 

 

"Sonyaaaaa...." 

 

"Just asking Yaz, not like stork dropped her." 

 

"Well, technically yes..." 

 

"Well then...it's possible...I dunno Yaz...I've seen all kinds of weird shit since I'm with you. It wouldn't surprise me. And that bird as well...same eyes" 

 

"Come on Sherlock...we should go back" she laughed. 

 

 

... 

 

Ryan removed one of the hatches down from a massive heater system. They were deep inside the Tardis. Place which he only saw a few times. But tinkering around this place with the Doctor was always a special treat for him. 

 

"How's everything Doctor? You look tired." 

 

"Fine I suppose...getting there...I am tired." 

 

"Babies are a lot of work." 

 

"Tell me about it" she yawned "She's worth it though...I wouldn't change it for the universe.” 

 

"It suits you." he said and pulled the filter down. 

 

"What does?" She asked and sat on the floor. 

 

"You know...being mum" he smiled "Never seen you happy like this." 

 

"You trying to say I'm miserable Ryan?" 

 

"You did have your moments" he laughed unscrewing the hatch "But now you're beaming." 

 

"Thanks Ryan, nothing like the honesty...I am happy..." she yawned again "I haven't been happier in centuries..." she said closing her eyes. 

 

"Now what?" he asked putting a filter on the floor "Doctor!" 

 

"Huh...?" She julted "Oh...sorry...arrh...we need to shut down that valve and hose down the filters then put it back and turn the heating back on" she was about to get up when Ryan stopped her. 

 

"Wait, stay here...I'll do that...where do I close it?" 

 

"Oh, thank you Ryan, that's sweet...around there...can't miss it. Big red valve, turn it clockwise." 

 

"Alright" he said and ran off. He saw the valve around the corner just like she said "Ok...I turned it off" he shouted "Doctor, I tell you what...you look really tired" he said as he walked back "Just tell me what to..." 

 

He stopped and smiled seeing her fall asleep on the floor next to a massive pipe, then took her coat that was left hanging from one of the valves and covered her. "You sleep mummy...I'll figure it out" he smiled and grabbed the filters. 

 

Some light banging jolted the Doctor from her sleep, and she jumped "What...where?" She said disoriented. 

 

"Sorry...just putting the hatches back" Ryan said. 

 

"Did I just..." 

 

"Yeah" he laughed "Over and out." 

 

"Sorry Ryan..." she sat up rubbing her face "I'm really sorry." 

 

"It's alright...no need to say sorry Doctor...you had a good hour there...I think you needed it.... It’s all done, the filters." 

 

"Aaaaaa...you did all that by yourself?....Aaawww... Thank you so much Ryan...I really appreciate it" 

 

"No worries...Oh, I think the girls are back."

The Tardis doors burst open, Yaz and Sonya walked in giggling. 

 

"It's really falling now we came back in time" Sonya said shaking snow off her boots. 

 

"We have...hey, look at her...that's just so cuuute" she looked down as Anaya was snuggled inside her jacket "Wakey wakey sleepyhead, we're home." 

 

"Kangaroo...I need some hot tea...want some?" 

 

"Yeah definitely" she said and unzipped her jacket "Just need to change her and I'll have to feed her." 

 

"Here... give me the jacket Yaz" 

 

"Heeey!" Doctor walked in, hair all messy and a sleepy face. 

 

"Hey babe...Did you just wake up?" Yaz asked. 

 

"Mmmmm" she yawned "It's so embarrassing...I fell asleep in a boiler room Yaz." 

 

"Whaaaa? OMG babe" she giggled. 

 

"I'll take her Yaz" she said and pulled the baby out of the wrap "Heeey munchkin...I missed my girls...Had a nice time?" she smiled taking Anaya's hat off kissing her "Uuu cold chubby cheeks." 

 

"We had a great time...she was sleeping all the way... just woke up now" 

 

"You really look tired baby" Yaz brushed her knuckles over her cheek. 

 

"I can't believe I fell asleep...Poor Ryan...he cleaned the whole system alone...I passed out on the floor" 

 

"OMG babe..." Yaz kissed her cheek "I'll feed her, you go and have a nap. 

 

"You both need some sleep if you ask me" Sonya said. 

 

...

 

 

It was already late afternoon and now Yaz herself was feeling utterly exhausted. She lied on her side with baby latched on to her and Doctor pressed on her back, face tucked into her hair and arm wrapped around her. 

 

"I'm so tired" Doctor mumbled into her hair. 

 

"I'm dying..." 

 

"Can we stay in bed for the rest of the day?" She asked rubbing her face into her shoulder. 

 

"That's a first" she giggled "Absolutely." 

 

"Good...Yaz" 

 

"Mmmm?" 

 

There was no answer just a deep sigh and a wiggle snuggling closer to her back and then few moments later a little twitch of her fingers on Yaz's stomach and she knew she had fallen asleep. She struggled to keep herself awake just long enough to move Anaya to safety, constantly panicked about crushing her, tiered as she was. 

They were both utterly defeated by a two week old baby and it kind of seemed almost comical. 

She sighed relieved when she could finally move her, and Doctor jolted behind her.
