Chapter 49
Yaz was woken up by the sounds from the streets. Early morning sun was filtering through the wooden shutters of their bedroom. She turned around to see the empty bed and yawned stretching herself. "Morning little one" she smiled rubbing her palm over her stomach "Time to get up ... Let's find your mum ha" she said and rolled over the bed like the pancake
Doctor prepared her flip-flops by the bed. The only shoes she could put on her feet without her help and she smiled seeing them then got up and wobbled to the window opening shutters letting the sun into the room.
"Waaaw look at that" she spoke to the baby "I wish you could see it...we can take you here one day and loads of other places" she leaned over the window looking at people passing by and women chatting on a corner. She saw the Doctor passing by the house in a rush and giggled assuming she was probably getting more stuff for the Tardis before everyone woke up.

"Hakim...can you get the plates out for me?" Nadjia pointed to the wooden cupboard
"Sure" he got the plates out and kissed her cheek haply
"You're in a good mood" she giggled
"Aren't you?"
"Will be when I feed everyone" she smiled and kissed him quickly
"Ups" Doctor walked in "Soooorry" she turned her back quickly
"It's alright Doctor..." Nadjia laughed "That's as far as I'll get for today"
"So sorry...I thought everyone was still asleep" she said walking inside
"Doctor...I noticed there's nothing even similar to a fridge? Where do I keep this?" She pointed to eggs and some other produce on a table
"Aaaaa...come here...I'll show you" Doctor waived her hand and Nadjia followed her outside to the courtyard to the stone steps in the corner just by the kitchen door leading down into what looked like the basement "Here" Doctor smiled shining her sonic and opening her arms in the middle of the small basement room
"Waaaaaw" Nadjia looked around at the shelfs carved into the rocks and the stone walls. The room was tiny but very cool and dark apart from the light from the sonic.
"Just need to take a flash light when you go here Najia"
"This is amazing...it's so cool...like a walk in fridge" she laughed
"Yap...it was the only way to keep the food fresh...houses get way to warm"
They came back up to the kitchen and found Yaz chatting to her dad.
"Morning potato" Doctor smiled and kissed her temple
"Hey baby...when did you come back?"
"Come back from where?" she looked at her confused
"Hi mum"
"Morning darling" Nadjia passed next to her "wanna help me out?"
"Sure mum" Yaz turned towards her mother still confused
Doctor set the table with Hakim chatting away with him about Ziggurat and different customs.
"This is sooo annoying" Sonya could be herd from the hallway "I wanted to take the pictures Ryan"
"I knoooow but we are in Babylon babe"
"Exactly why I wanted to take the pictures....How did these people ever live like this honestly" she kept winning as she came in
"What's up?" Yaz laughed
"My phone died.... Morning" she turned to the others
"Give it here" Doctor reached with her hand
"It's dead" she placed it in her hand huffing
Doctor zoomed her sonic over it and grinned "Not any moooore"
"Whaaa? No waaaay?" She grabbed her phone back and swiped the screen "OMG you're a star" she flew over giving surprise kiss to Doctor's cheek making her laugh
"You still can't keep those Sonya" she pointed her finger
"Why?"
"Told ya...You can change the history"
"Oh alright. ...Well can I keep them in a Tardis then?"
"That you can"
"Good enough for me"
"So you're planning to go back to Tardis then?" Ryan smirked
"Maybe" she pouted her lips
"Soo...what are we gonna do today?" Doctor asked cheerfully "....I was thinking...."
"Oh we are going to the hanging gardens" Ryan said
"Oh" she slumped her shoulders disappointed
"I promised Nadjia I'll take her to the market" Hakim said "We wanted to get something for our apartment"
"I see" Doctor sat down at the table completely deflated by this point
Yaz passed behind her and kissed the top of her head running her hand over her shoulder then leaned over smiling "You can show me Ziggurat" she kissed her cheek
"Alright" Doctor pinged back grinning haply and wiggled in her chair "And take you to try those fruity things" she pointed with her fingers
"Perfect" Yaz smiled "She wiggled this morning...she missed you"
"Aaaaaa did she?" Doctor smiled the biggest smile and ran her palm over her stomach then kissed it gently
"Here you go darling" Nadjia smiled putting the plate with foot in front of the Doctor
"Aaaaarhhh....Thank you Nadjia...I really appreciate you doing this...You really don't have to...But it does smell divine"
"Don't worry about it...Keeps me busy and makes me feel useful"
"You are very useful Nadjia" Doctor said smug digging into her food "You even drove the Tardis"
"For second" she laughed "And it was one second more than I want to do ever again" she laughed
"Mmmm" Doctor shrugged "I hate to think what would happen if you haven't"
"Don't remind me" she shook her head placing other plates on the table "Come you two...table" she turned to Ryan and Sonya "...You either eat or leave the kitchen...stop standing there like lamp posts"
Doctor raised her eyebrows and laughed.

Yaz finished getting ready and sat on the edge of the bed waiting for her shoes to be put on.
"I hope they have public toilets" she laughed
"They do" Doctor looked up laughing "You're gonna see all the public toilets in a galaxy Yaz" she giggled
"I wiiiilll...my god...I can write a travel blog about them"
"Not a bad idea"
"I'm joking" she laughed
"Here we go..." Doctor stood up and pulled her by the hands
Yaz walked over to the little table and picked up her baby bracelet from it clipping it on her hand then switched it on.
"Hey you...ready for adventure" she spoke to the baby hologram hovering up in the air
"Goodness...she's really kicking" Doctor grinned going gaga "Aaaa look Yaz the feeties"
"I can't wait to squish her"
"Honest Yaz...I'll never put her down" she wrapped her arms around her kissing her neck gently and running her hands down the side of her stomach
"I miss you" Yaz sighed leaning on her
"I know beautiful" Doctor trailed her lips over her neck and her back
Yaz turned her head over her shoulder capturing her lips in a gentle kiss then turned in her arms trailing her fingers over her chest and slipping her hands underneath her coat.
"Mmmmm...." Doctor squirmed and broke the kiss grabbing her hands "Head wonk...you're making my brains fuzzy"
"That's the whole point" Yaz smiled cheeky sliding her finger underneath the waistband of her trousers tracing the line of her stomach but Doctor squirmed moving herself away
"Aaaaa...noooooo Yaz...You're being very cheeky potato"
"I'm needy...and neglected" she whined making Doctor laugh
"You are not neglected in any shape or from I give you loads of attention...needy...well I can see that" she laughed "C'mere you" she tugged her hand and kissed and kissed her short then led her through the door brushing her hand over her backside kissing the back of her neck playfully
"Now you're giving me a head wonk" she giggled

They walked through the stone narrow streets stopping at almost every stall and peeking into every shop. It was amazing for Yaz to see a completely different culture than any she had seen before. Her eyes widened at the beautiful colorful fabrics and variety of different foods. She ate so much of it and tried so many that she started to worry about paying the price later. But it had been a long time since they had been able to relax without the underlay of stress, and she cherished every minute of it knowing that it could be gone in the blink of an eye.
Even the Doctor felt different, small changes only Yaz recognized in her little wife. The way she smiled at her when their eyes would lock in split moments at the time and subtle gentle touches of her hands brushing against her arms, the excitement in her hazel eyes and a big bright smile across her face. She felt more human than ever without her sonic and her Tardis. Just a young woman exited about life and prospects of their joint future together. Yaz felt almost enraptured to the point where just a glimpse of the local streets would remind her that they were in ancient Babylon.
"Here try this Yaz" Doctor waived a small wrap in front of Yaz's mouth "It's so yummy"
"Baby I'm gonna throw up" she giggled but opened her mouth taking a bite "Mmmmmm" she wiped her lips with a tissue "OMG...what is thaaat?"
"Told ya...We will buy some and take home...Here open" she shoved another peace into her mouth practically force feeding her. But Yaz hasn't complained too much either.
"Mmmm" Yaz nodded with her mouth full
"Can we have 20 please" Doctor said haply
"20???? OMG"
"For everyone"
"I knoooow but we already have all this" she lifted wrapper tied with a string
"Mmmm" Doctor shrugged "Ryan eats a lot" she said casually paying for the food
Yaz just shook her head laughing. They packed the rest of the food and continued towards the Ziggurat.
"You alright potato? Do you need to rest?"
"On a way back...for now I'm fine.... I will need a toilet though. She is wiggling so much...I think her foot is massaging my bladder" she laughed
"I know the place...C'mere" she tugged on her hand

"Whyyyyy can't they just make normal toilets...Why does it have to be a hole in a ground?" She whined holding on to Doctor's calf’s in small cubicle of a public toilet
Doctor laughed holding the door shut and passed her the tissue
"I have no dignity left" she said tugging it out of her hand.
"I have seen it all Yaz"
"That's not the point..." she said grumpy grabbing on to the back of Doctor's coat getting up and pulling her underwear up "I also need bigger nickers...Look at this" she lifted her dress
Doctor turned around pissing herself laughing "Can't see nothing from the tummy Yaz"
"Exactly...they're barely holding on there"
"Maybe you should take them off then" she laughed
"Wouldn't you like that" she laughed pushing her outside
"We're all naked underneath" she shrugged
"Surely you must find it easier as a man?"
"Dunno....it was a bit confusing in a beginning I won't lie...I always wondered what it would be like to be a woman...I did hope at least one regeneration will be"
"What do you do on Gallifrey when someone regenerates...say you have a wife and then you now have a husband?...How does that work?"
"It doesn't matter for us Yaz. We're seriously not so obsessed with those issues like humans are...It's silly...But that doesn't mean we have criteria. You still need to fancy someone"
"So if I changed and I was a man you legit wouldn't care"
"Depends if you're a cute man" she grinned cheeky
"Oooooh...So I'd get a boot up my ass if I wasn't" she laughed
"I did not say that" she pointed a finger at her "I doubt you'd want me at 78 year old grandpa"
"Depends if you're cute" she laughed
Doctor scrunched her face "I hate being old"
"What's it like?"
"Gray and miserable" she laughed "No wonder I was always grumpy"
"So you were grumpy old git?"
"Yeah" she laughed
"I'd still love ya"
"Mmmm..." Doctor mumbled into her chin
"Your wife fancied you"
"True...I won't deny it" she said smug
"Well then...couldn't be that bad then...Still don't you dare change this face" she grabbed her cheek turning her face and snogged her
"Yaaaz!...." she laughed looking around embarrassed
"Oh shut up...you wanted that kiss" she laughed grabbing her hands
Doctor couldn't hide the silly smile on her face happily kissing her knuckles as they continued to walk.
"Aaaaaaa look Yaz.." she pointed down the street as they finally arrived to the Ziggurat
"Wooooow that's really huge"
"300 feet at the base Yaz"
"My god..." she looked up to the impressive structure towering over their heads
"There's a shrine on the top"
"Can we have a look?"
"Noo...it's only open for celebrations Yaz"
"That's a shame...I'd love to see it inside...Mind you I'd die if I climbed that"
"It's beautiful...one of the wonders of the ancient world Yaz and were standing right underneath it"
"How much is left of it in our time?"
"Just few levels Yaz...not much....still impressive"

Yaz was struggling to walk on a way back. Her feet looked like donuts and her back was on fire. The baby was also restless, and she wasn't sure if she was feeling her struggle but suddenly she was kicking and turning making Yaz burp from all the food she ate prior.
"Come on potato.... let’s rest for a while. You've done really well but you need a brake"
"I doo...I feel like over inflated balloon"
"Maybe I should call you balloon Yaz"
"Don't you dare" she laughed
Yaz finally sat up, a pleasant relief to her swollen feet. She was tired, but not hungry. She still felt like she was going to throw up everything they ate along the way. By this point it was also extremely hot and her dress was sticking to her skin. The city was full of narrow streets that offered perfect shade, but the hot air was trapped inside and mixed with the smells of various types of food and animal waste it was not a pleasant experience and made breathing difficult. So, sitting outdoors on one of the many squares was much more pleasant. She lifted her dress off her chest trying to cool herself down eagerly expecting for the Doctor to come back with some cold drink enjoying the one thing she always took pleasure in on all their travels, studying the random people walking down the street. She would study how they dressed and take notice of small details easy missed by simply walking around, the jewelry they wore and how women did their hair, the kind of shoes they wore and numerous other tiny details.
"Here we go darling...I think you're gonna like this. It's like a juice but made out the local root and sweetened by honey. It tastes very much like ice tea"
"Oh I'll drink anything by this point" she took pitcher and knocked it down in one go leaving Doctor with her mouth hanging open
"Well that didn't last for very long" she raised her eyebrows "Want some more?"
"Yeeees pleeease" she giggled "I'm dying "
"Alright" she laughed getting up again
She came back shortly with more drinks bringing double round this time.
"Thanks baby"
"Don't mention it" she giggled "There's two of you after all"
"I know...she's been so restless. Do you think she can feel it...when I'm tiered or stressed or in pain"
"Oh definitely Yaz...baby feels everything she feels even more than what the human baby would do. She's connected to you in a very special way. There's a neuro connection you two share which was formed a long time ago. She can feel every emotion you have, and she can also hear all the sounds around"
"I read about it in that book Tardis practically threw at me about the Gallifreyan babies and pregnancies but I wasn't sure how much of it implies to me. I am human"
"You are, but you are also her mother no less than I am Yaz"
"I do sometimes feel as though she's only yours"
"What whyyyyy?"
"Dunno..." she sighed "...cause I'm nothing like you or her"
"I do have human DNA Yaz" Doctor said passing her another drink "...so you're more like me than you think...It's one of the reasons I was even able to do this in a first place. Otherwise we would've never been compatible...But regardless of biological differences between us Yaz you are her mum in every way...And always will be...She wouldn't be possible without you" Doctor looked up at her grinning satisfied
"Do you wonder what she will look like?"
"All the time" she smiled softly and rested her head in her arm "I can't wait to see what she turns out to be...She's like Kinder Egg"
"Kinder Egg?" Yaz laughed
"Well, sort off.... cause I always get double of those ..so annoying"
"Well you're definitely not getting double of her that's for sure" Yaz laughed
"We should head back slowly. You have to rest...you did well today"
"I think I'm gonna crash into that bed as soon as we come back" she said leaning back in a chair gliding her palm over her stomach "But we had such a nice day"
"We haaave...I think I needed this more than I was aware of" she reached over the table for Yaz's hand and played with her fingers gently

They came back late afternoon to an empty house. In a way it suited them both to have extra time to themselves. Yaz took her dress off as soon as they stepped through the door and went straight for the bathroom where Doctor was already filling a bath for her.
"This will make you feel better" she said running her fingers through the water of the stone bathtub.
"You've put towels inside?"
"So it's soft Yaz...You're not used to this"
"Awww...thank you baby" she leaned over kissing the top of her head "But it's a beautiful bathtub"
"It is isn't it. Come on...in you go" she took her hand and helped her inside"
"You spoil me" she closed her eyes leaning on the edge
"It's why I have you" she smiled and kissed her forehead stroking her hair gently
"We had a beautiful day today"
"Finally...it was about time we had some fun. Is just me or we hadn't had proper fun in years Yaz" she sat on the floor next to her crossing her legs "Remember I used to take you everywhere...and fam..."
"Then all the shit started" she opened her eyes and smiled reaching her hand over the edge and stroke Doctor's cheek gently "You did your best....It wasn't easy for anyone"
Doctor kissed the tips of her fingers gently. Her eyes looking outside through the window somewhere in the distance. Yaz wondered what she thought about as sadness settled somewhere in the corners of her hazel eyes.
"I love you" Yaz said quietly "...you gave me beautiful life...I love my life, specially now"
Doctor turned to her with a small gentle smile "I hope so...I want you to be happy"
"I am happy" she said brushing her knuckles over Doctor's cheek
They fell silent for while. Yaz closed her eyes. Her body finally relaxing after all the walking and heat. Doctor kept her eyes on a window brushing tips of Yaz's fingers over her lips.
"The water is getting cold...You should go out" she said after a while and got up reaching for her hands helping her to get out then took the towel drying her out in silence. Regret and remorse have settled inside her suddenly, not only for failing in this life but faltering in her previous ones as well. Those were her ghosts, forever present in every moment of her existence and she would never be able to get rid of them. She could only push them to the back of her mind, somewhere deep in the bottom of her soul, keeping them there with all memories, love and sorrow hoping they will serve as a constant reminder so she doesn't fail again. She wiped the towel over Yaz's face and smiled at her gently, placing a small kiss to the tip of her nose.
"Wanna lie with me?" Yaz said bringing her fingers to the side of her neck
"Mmmm...I need a wash...I don't think I smell too good myself"
"Beeswax and Tardis" Yaz smiled and stole a kiss from her lips
Doctor scrunched her face making her laugh "Arms up" she said pulling a light cotton dress over her and ironing the folds of the crisp white fabric with her palms as she pulled it over her
Yaz left her in the bathroom and covered the windows with wooden shutters before drawing the sheer curtains across the
metal pole and settled into the plush bed, she looked back to catch a glimpse of the Doctor's frail figure as she took off her clothing and threw them on the ground.
She waited for her playing with the pillow's hem studding the needlework of the flowers woven into the corners of the fabric then felt the bed dipping, one arm slipping inside the fabric of her dress to delicately palm every square inch of her skin, and the kiss of soft lips on her exposed shoulder.
She smiled, turned to face her, met her gaze, and slowly, tenderly kissed her lips.
Doctor's skin was still cold and fresh from the water she bathed herself in. She slipped her hand around her trailing the tips of her fingers gently down her spine and over the dip of her lower back.
"Cute bum" She giggled into her lips while playfully palming her behind
"It's getting more attention then ever" the Doctor said while softly kissing her once more.
"I love you" Yaz whispered
Her half opened eyes responded to Yaz`s dreamy, drowsy whispers by giving her another, deeper and more intense kiss than any previous. This kiss continued over her skin while Doctor removed her dress and curled her fingers overher breast. She sighed, sifting her golden hair through her fingers, and ran her hands over the soft shin at the back of her neck
while Doctor's lips caressed every inch of her.
"C'mere" Yaz smiled tugging on her arm pulling her back up "Kiss me"
The hooded eyes smiled back at her, taking her breast her between her lips making her eyes roll at the back of her head then trailed over her as she climbed her body. She painted her lips across her face watching Yaz closing her eyes falling into the pillow and placed her hand on her cheek. "You're the best that ever happened to me" Doctor whispered
Yaz kissed her passionately while smiling sweetly, sliding her hand between them to stroke the Doctor's smooth stomach.
"Yaz" she sighed into her lips
"Sssshhhhh"Yaz moved gently, feeling her hot breath on herlips, her fingers locking around her arm, and her leg encircling her as she began to softly roll her hips following her hand.
"I love you so much" Doctor sighed tucking her bottom lip into hers. Quite moans leaving her lips as she wrapped her fingers around the side of Yaz's face kissing her open mouth as Yaz swallowed her moans
Yaz's kisses dripped down her neck's curve and
over her cheek.She wiggled down her body, pushing her lips to her smooth stomach and wrapping them over her hips, which raised off the bed at each touch. She settled down between her thighs trying to find the comfortable position and saw Doctor's eyes looking down worriedly
"I'm fine" she smiled "Close your eyes love" She spoke while rubbing her palm over her stomach and pressed her lips to her mound then sealed herself on her loving wife taking her slow and gentle. She felt her breathing quickening underneath her palm and her muscles twitch at every move, her fingers closing around the root of her braid tugging lightly on her hair as her body arched towards her lips. Doctor moaned quietly and writhed underneath her reaching for the fingers of her hand resting on her stomach.
"Yaz" she sighed her name and tangled her fingers through her hair. Her cheeks burning, skin tingling as heat was surging through it and her haze started swirling around her soaking into the sheets. She sunk into the bed falling apart underneath her then fell silent for a moment, her hearts beating as drums she lazily stroke Yaz's hair
"C'mere darling" she spoke breathless and tugged on her hand pulling her up "Give us a kiss" she wrapped her fingers around her face with a dazed up smile and kissed her gently then turned on her side wrapping her arms around her and brushing her nose over her cheek "I love you soo much" she said
"I'm crazy about you" Yaz giggled showering her face with her lips "Feeling better?"
"Mmmm..." she hummed rubbing her nose over Yaz's cheek "I'm sorry...I don't know why...I got a bit of a wobble in not a good way"
"It's alright baby...I think you're just tiered darling physically and mentally"
"Maybe...But this cuddle does me a world of good" she huddled up "I'm tired...why am I so tired?"
"Cause you finally relaxing today" Yaz stroke the nape of her neck gently "Sleep baby" she pressed a long kiss to her forehead
"Maybe I should" she nuzzled into her neck "I think you might be right Yaz...I should listen to you more" she spoke drifting away and tightened her arms around Yaz
"Really?" Yaz raised her eyebrow cheeky
"Mmmm" Doctor hummed into her neck "I always wanted this"
"A wife and unplanned kid?" Yaz chuckled using the opportunity to drag information out of her
"To belong" Doctor mumbled tucking her face deeper into her neck falling asleep.
