Chapter 1

"Doctor!" Yaz looked around the Tardis, but she was nowhere to be seen, so she went outside but still couldn't find her anywhere

They stopped off on a bizarre small planet called Trintiqun the name Yaz had serious trouble pronouncing. The place wasn't pleasant the least. In Yaz's mind anyway. Giant bugs the size of helicopters flying all over the place. And vegetation so odd that it reminded Yaz of Alice in Wonderland. But the Doctor found it weirdly fascinating.

"Yaz" she heard Doctor calling

"Doctor?" she turned around, but she couldn't see her

"Yaz...over here?" she describes in her mind in the most obvious way

"Over where Doctor?" Yaz kept turning around waving her hands in front of her face to keep the bugs away

"Yaz, look up" Doctor said laughing

Yaz looked above her head and saw the Doctor waving at her from way above inside the treetop

"Doctor?" she looked up in disbelief shocked when she saw how high she was

"Hello!!!" the Doctor waived cheerfully

"OMG what are you doing up there? And how in a name did you even get up there in a first place?"

she yelled looking up sheltering her eyes from the sun with her hand still nervously waiving the hand in front of her face from time to time

"Wanna come up? ... I'll pass the rope...Wonderful view from up here Yaz" she says smiling

"Noooo...I'll pass on that one thanks" she puts her head down "Making me feel ill just looking at that height" she mumbled into her chin

"You don't know what your missing" Doctor yells

"Oh, believe me I do...You're bloody nutter you are" she mumbled again

"You do know I can hear that Yaz" Doctor remarked crawling on one of the branches

"Whaaa???" Yaz looked up shocked

"Told you...I do have excellent hearing Yaz" she says crawling further down the branch trying to reach something "Shame I don't have longer arms as well...Aaaaaaaa.." she winged stretching her arm out

"You're going to fall! ... You're crazy" Yaz yells cringing from the bottom looking at her

"I hope not Yaz...that would be really embarrassing...not to mention extremely painful" she stretched her arm little bit more and smiled satisfied when her fingers were inch away from some fruit she was aiming for when she heard crackling sound underneath her "Shoot!!" the smile goes from her face, and she starts tumbling down the treetop screaming

"DOCTOOOOR!!!!" Yaz yelled from the bottom and covered her eyes expecting to hear a sound of her body smacking the ground. But everything went quite and just one bird flew away from the tree

"Doctor?" Yaz peaked through her fingers trying to see her, but she was nowhere to be seen

Doctor squinted, opening one eye, then the other. "No pain" she thought...she looked around saw branches...."Hmmm...still on a tree" she concluded.

She looked around and released she landed on a much thicker branch further down the three. She calculated she was exactly 4 meters and 25cm from the ground.

"Not bad" she thought "At least it won't hurt that much iff I fall from here" she thought

"Yaz! I’m fine!!" she yelled and quickly managed to balance herself around grabbing one of the other branches and swinging herself to jump on the other one where she wobbled a bit, but she managed. In few seconds she was down on a ground in front of Yaz whose mouth was wide open staring at her in disbelief

"Hey, that wasn't so bad...could have been worse!" Doctor smiled

"What's wrong with you???" Yaz snapped "You could've been killed...paralyzed...something"

"Hey...no need to get so upset Yaz...I'm fine" she smiles plucking leaves out of her hair

Yaz stormed of into the Tardis not replying

"Yaz? ... " Doctor was confused. "What did I do?" she shrugged her shoulders speaking to herself, picked up her bag and started walking towards the Tardis

She walked inside and found Yaz sitting on the steps playing on her phone ignoring her. She was already board not having anyone to talk to to she sat next to her and nudged her with her shoulder "Sulking?"

"Leave me alone" Yaz

"Whaaa? ... You never speak to me like that Yaz...What's going on?"

Yaz smacked her phone on a step and turned towards her "What do you want me to say? What if you fell…like really fell? Ha?"

"It would hurt" she looks at her oblivious

"This isn't funny...You could have died!" Yaz turned her gaze at the floor

Doctor went quiet. She finally released what's going on. It took her a while, but she caught up with it

"Yaz...Were you scared of losing me? .... Is that what this is all about?"

Yaz stayed silent looking at the floor

"It is, isn't it?" She looked at her in silence for a moment and continued to talk to her when she didn't get any response

"I know you've been through a lot Yaz. But I assure you...I wouldn't get hurt even if I did fall. I'm not that stupid Yaz. I know it may seem like it sometimes but there's a method to my madness you know. I'm not gonna purposely go and get myself mangled Yaz"

"I'm sorry I snapped...and I'm sorry I spoke to you like that. I just got scared" she said with her head stil down looking at the floor

Doctor nudged her again this time with her leg "I can't get upset with you even iff I tried" she reached with hand offering her pinkie "Friends again?"

Yaz smiled and hooked her pinkie to hers "Of course silly" and finally looked at her "Just stop scaring me like that"

Doctor laughed "Ok...I promise...Hey did I tell you I grew an arm once?"

"You whaaaa?" Yaz looked at her shocked as she was getting up smiling all cheerfully

"Oh yeah...I can heal most stuff Yaz...that's why you shouldn't be so scared"

Evening came and Doctor busted into the kitchen scarring Yaz out of her skin so much she spilled milk on herself

"Hey wanna go with me?" Doctor grabbed an apple from the kitchen counter throwing it in the air wiles passing behind Yaz

"Go where? ... It's night?" Yaz looked at her confused wiping her shirt with the cloth

"I need to get some samples for my research I thought I'd fun if we went together. I will be staying all night, so I understand if you wanna pass on this one. I know you're scared of bugs and everything" she leaned on the counter biting on her apple

"All night?"

"Aha" she nodded

"I'm not sure" Yaz contemplated in her head a lot. She was absolutely petrified of bugs but night out with the Doctor was tempting when alternative would be her staying alone in Tardis watching movies

"Oh, come ooon...It will be fun" Doctor smiled sliding herself down the counter and nudged her with her shoulder "It's just little bugs Yaz...tiny...really little...Besides most are sleeping now anyway"

"I really hate bugs Doctor...I really do"

"Alright...your decision..." she walked out of the kitchen and then peaked back inside smiling "I wanted to show you glowing lake"

Yaz fought herself with every breath but slowly she felt herself caving in..."Alright then" she finally said

"Yes!!!" Doctor jumped "You won't regret it Yaz" she disappeared around the corner

"Why do I have a feeling I will?" Yaz spoke to herself

"We are leaving in an hour" Doctor yelled from the hallway

….

"Yaz...what's that smell? Smells of citrus? Did you take lemons with you?" she asked as they stepped out of the Tardis into the darkness

"Insect repellent" Yaz replied darting her eyes around the forest completely freaked

"Yaz...it's fine...it's just a beautiful forest...here give me your hand...don't be scared" she reached out to takes her by the hand and switched the little lite strapped around her head

"I'm not scared" Yaz lied through her teeth

Doctor smiled shaking her head "I told you Yaz I have a very good hearing...and your heart sounds like bells of Notre Dame" she looks at her smiling "Seriously nothing to be scared about...I promise you Yaz you won't forget this night" she continued walking through the darkness holding her hand

"Oh, I'm sure I wont" Yaz says sarcastically already regarding her decision after two minutes of walking

Doctor walked in relative silence just commenting on a few things along the way. She seemed to know exactly where she was heading, which gave a bit of comfort to Yaz who was holding on to her hand for dear life. She couldn't stop looking around and twitching to every sound.

Forest was dark, warm, and humid. The odd bug passed by them giving Yaz goosebumps. Especially when the odd bug started flying around Doctors lamp that was literally stuck on top of her head. For the life of hers Yaz couldn't understand how she is already not running as fast as her legs could carry her, but Doctor didn't give monkeys the odd bug would just slam itself into her face. On the contrary she would speak to it, apologizing for scaring it. And as Yaz through about all of that a massive insect flew right in her face. She started screaming from the top of her voice flapping her arms around her hysterically

"Yaz...Yaz it's fine it fine" Doctor tried to calm her down but she even smacked her hand frantically out of the way

"Get it off...get it off, get it ooooffff meeeee!" she kept screaming

Doctor grabbed her face with both hands "Yaaaz!" she yelled and then lowered her voice when she got her attention "It's fine" she said gently "It's gone...calm down" she felt Yaz shaking and she was looking  straight into Doctors eyes like a deer caught in head lights "Sssshhh...it's gone" Doctor said even softer

Yaz slowly started to calm down holding Doctors hands that were still wrapped around her face. She wasn't sure was it her eyes looking at her inches away, her hands wrapped around her face or the tone of voice that calmed her down. But what ever it was out of all those things it did calm her down. Her breathing slowed down and one tear went down her face. She felt incredibly embarrassed but before she even had a chance to react Doctor wiped it quickly with her thumb.

"It's ok...you feel better?" she asked calmly

"Mmmm" Yaz mumbled

"I'll take that as a yes" she slowly removed her hands from her face and took her hand "Do you want us to go back?"

"No" Yaz persisted mainly because she felt embarrassed and wanting to prove to her, she was tuff enough to continue but it was struggle inside

"Are you absolutely sure Yaz? ... We can turn around now. I'm sorry I really didn't know you're so scared I thought it was just a little bit. I wouldn't have insisted if I did"

"No... come on let's go" Yaz composed herself and continued walking

"Why are you so scared of them, Yaz? They are only little."

"Because they are everywhere...like you know... in my space, slamming into me… and they bite"

"It's all a matter of perspective Yaz" she said looking towards her briefly

"What do you mean by that?"

"Well, maybe you're in their space"

"You lost me"

Doctor stopped turning her by her hand. She looked around the darkness and swished her hand around the air catching an insect passing by "Don't be scared...it's harmless and very little" she said calmly "Give me your hand"

"Nooo!!"

"Do you trust me Yaz?" Doctor looked up to her straight in the eyes what seemed almost like more meaningful question to Yaz and not really related to the bug issue

"Yes of course...totally" she replied with no hesitation

Doctor smiled from the corner of her lips "Then give me your hand…I would never harm you Yaz"

Yaz reluctantly pulled her hand out and Doctor carefully opened up her fist dropping a tiny creature on her hand. It was standing there in a palm of Yaz's hand scared to move on either side and when it finally did start walking Doctor put her finger in front of it. The creature backed off and turned in the opposite direction. She did it one more time before taking Yaz's wrist into her hand and moved her arm towards the leaves next to them. "Sorry about that...didn't mean to scare you...Go on...off you go" she said smiling as it went away.

"See..." she looked at Yaz "Matter of perception Yaz. He is so tiny, and you are so huge. He was petrified Yaz...you are like massive giant in his world" she took her hand and started walking "I would say you're in his space...scaring the living daylights out of him"

"I never thought about it that way"

"I know...but you will from now on" Doctor smiled and continued to walk

"What's that light?" she pointed in front of them

The bright lights were shining through the leaves of the forest floor not far from where they were.

"Aaaaaa...we're finally here" Doctor switched off her little lamp "Won't be needing that anymore...come on Yaz...You're going to love it" she turned around with a massive smile across her face pulling her hand exited through the dark path until they came up closer to the light.

Yaz stopped with eyes wide open and a smile across her face taken back by the magical site in front for her eyes.

A small lake in the forest glistened as the twinkling lights illuminated it, the turquoise perfectly clear water revealing the white sandy bottom of the lake. Unusual luminous flowers and mushrooms surrounded the edges of the lake, shimmering in rainbow colors. Suddenly she felt as if they had come out of the horrors of darkness and found themselves in the middle of some enchanted forest from children's fairy tales in place that looked out of this world. Then she realized they were in the place that was out of this world on a far away planet far away from Earth and she thought to herself that maybe just maybe someone travelled here before and saw this enchanted place that inspired them to write the children's tale

"What is this place?" a massive smile still graced her face. She bent down and touched one of the flowers which suddenly closed its petals when it felt the tip of her finger. "This is incredible," she looked at the Doctor who was standing looking out at the lake with her fingers hooked in the clasps of her braces.

She looked at Yaz with a smug look on her face "I said you wouldn't regret it" she clapped her hands and jumped excitedly "Right should we get ourselves comfortable? And then you can help get my samples after which we can have a swim and then dinner and after that...well, whatever!"

Yaz smiled shaking her head "I can see you have it all planned out"

"Of course, I have...I always have everything planned" she looked at her smug

Yaz rolled her eyes laughing "Yeah right...always...famous for that you are"

They were taking all the stuff out off the bag that Doctor had packed when Yaz noticed something was missing

"Doctor...what are we going to sleep on? You took all the food including pickled onions" she looked at the jar frowning confused and continued “...a bunch of these..." she twirls little glass bottles in her hands even more confused "What are those anyway?"

"Oh, Yaz those are for the samples we will take I'll show you" she answered wiles casually taking her coat off and just frowning it randomly on the rock near by

"You still haven't answered my question...where are we gonna sleep? I hope not on the ground with all the bugs crawling around?"

Doctor laughed, "Of course not Yaz...I came prepared, don't worry" she takes a small thing out of the bag that looked like a larger wallet and opened it up spreading it on the ground into a bit larger piece of a fabric the size of a bigger scarf. She stepped back and zapped it with a sonic. The whole thing suddenly popped like popcorn and started blowing itself up into a dome shaped little tent.

"What the hell!!!" Yaz laughed "OMG it's a tent"

"Of course, it's a tent...what did you think it was?"

"I didn't think of anything...Can I look inside?"

"Be my guest" Doctor smiled smug

Yaz peaked inside and released that the bottom was all squidgy like one of those air mattresses. She didn't want to go inside with her dirty boots but from the small opening it looked nice and cozy. "OMG I absolutely love it...Where did you get this from?"

"Oh, Dumbledore last time I've seen him"

Yaz burst out laughing "Stop it...now you're taking a piss out of me"

"Am I Yaz?" she says seriously

Yaz dismissed her comment shaking her head laughing, but deep down she never knew if Doctor was messing around or telling the truth. She's already seen so much stuff that most people would think she's lying if she ever said it, Tardis being one of those things.

"Come on...let's get some samples Yaz" Doctor closed the tent and took her bag from the floor. She turned around and reached with her hand towards her "Coming?" It took Yaz milliseconds to accept the offer and place her palm into Doctors

They moved a bit from the lake into the forest following a gentle stream of the water going from the lake, but the forest started to look dark again. Yaz automatically tightens her grip to which Doctor responds with a gentle rubbing of her thumb on a side of Yaz's hand. "Here we go ..." she stopped by the rocks "Told you it's not that far"

"Why are we here?" Yaz looked around and couldn't figure out why they stopped

"Look Yaz...over there" she points to the spring of water coming out of the ground "I need the samples from the very source of that water. It's all coming from this place and draining down the forest floor into the lake" she bent down carefully and took her bottles out, filling them with water

"Here... take it...see that soil over there. Use this little spatula and put few scoops in this container for me please" she explained calmly

Yaz took the bottle and started filling it up "Why do you need it Doctor?"

She stopped what she was doing, rotating herself on a heel towards Yaz "Those flowers...the glowing twinkling once. They only exist here. I want to see why and what makes them glow. Also Yaz they live for over 1000 years"

"Whaaaa...those flowers and mushrooms we just saw?"

"Yap...so I figured it must be something in the water...minerals, something that the plants are feeding off, prolonging their life span. It's just a normal flower Yaz, nothing special about them so it must be in the water" she turned her gaze towards the spring and continued explaining "See, it comes from the ground and surfacing here...so it's something deep down in the core of this planet. But what really tickles my brains is why here Yaz...why it's not effecting all the plants''

"Why are we coming at night...why not do this during the day?"

"Good question Yaz...because whatever is making those plants live for thousands of years only gets activated at night. Which means is photosensitive"

"What do you mean by that?"

"The properties get destroyed by sunlight Yaz"

"I see..how do you know all this? How did you even come to this place?"

Doctor passed her another bottle "Here... take samples of that moss over there will you...use the little clamp not your fingers...I only need a little bit"

"Alright" she takes it of her hands

Doctor turns around continuing to take other samples "I've been here many times before. I read about this place in one book. It's a legend about the fountain of youth. I figured there must be an explanation for it...it tickled my brains. So, I came here, found it and started taking samples. But my studies were inconclusive, so I decided to come again"

"I'm glad I came with you" Yaz smiled passing her the bottle

"You are?" she looked at her surprised

"I am... I still hate the bugs but I'm glad I saw this place"

"Well, I'm glad you came...It's much more fun than doing it on my own" turns around and chips a piece of the rock "I wanted to spend some alone time with you anyway. I never get a chance to be alone with you"

Yaz stopped like someone froze her in a spot "You did?"

"Of Course, I did...why do you even question that?"

Her answer confused Yaz even more. She was reluctant to ask any more questions, but she thought this is as good time as ever. She probably will never get another chance at this so braved into it.

"Why?" the most stupid question came out of her mouth she thought for a moment. Out of all the questions in the world why did ask that one. Suddenly she felt anxiety rising up inside her. She wasn't sure she wanted to hear the answer. But her brain picked that question and now she was stuck with it.

"I like you" Doctor replied wiles placing her bottles carefully back in a bag "I like you a lot Yaz" she picked up a bag and got up jumping over the rocks to the other side of the stream "I just need to take one more thing...and then we are done"

Yaz stood speechless. Her brain scrambled for another question. The obvious one being "Like me in what way?" but Yaz would probably eat the handful of nails before asking that, so she desperately scrambled to find the way to reformat that sentence in less obvious way. And before she found that way, Doctor already continued to talk

"I always want to spend more time with you Yaz...but something is always in a way...never enough time"

"Well, I want to spend time with you...but you always run off in the other direction" Yaz spilled out a sentence that seemed more like a harsh criticism than declaration she loved being next to her. But now she was stuck with that one as well. She hated her mouth at the moment.

For a moment it seemed as though the Doctor ignored her sentence, continuing to put samples in her bag in silence. But what Yaz couldn't se is her twitching the corner of her lip when Yaz said it. She picked up her bag and turned around towards Yaz whose eyes were aimlessly wondering around the forest. Doctor hopped over a few stones and stood in front of her "I'm sorry Yaz...I realized that...It's why I brought you here...I thought you’d like it… I never thought it would be such unpleasant experience though"

"I didn’t know that...I’m sorry" she paused gazing at her in awkward silence for a moment "It's beautiful...just the bugs...I’m so sorry...but the lake is wonderful"

Yaz desperately trying to dodge showing her disappointment made Doctor laugh

"It's fine Yaz" Doctor suddenly brushed her finger over top of Yaz's nose, a gesture she'd never done before "I'm not upset with you" she smiled "I should've asked about bugs...Come on" she laughed offering her hand "We're done here...let's have some fun ha?"

They walked back in silence holding hands and the Doctor continued with her little thumb gesture all the way. It melted Yaz from the inside out and kept her from thinking about bugs. Her mind tried to break down every moment of their conversation into tiny pieces. The Doctor spoke almost in riddles. Every sentence she spoke could be interpreted in many different ways. She felt like she wasn't further forward. But there was no way in a million years that she would ever tell the Doctor how she felt about her, so she felt like she was destined to endlessly wonder if the Doctor felt the same way. Which probably she isn't, Yaz thought to herself. Why would she?... She also constantly referred to her as a friend and never gave her any reason to think she felt anything more than that. You can love your friends, Yaz thought. She herself certainly did not love the Doctor as a friend, she loved her deeply with every cell of her being on a completely different level. But she never intended to show it. It was a secret Yaz was ready to take to her grave.

The Doctor held Yaz's hand, stroking it gently with her thumb. She felt guilty for taking her to this place that clearly gave her no joy. This showed her once again that sometimes she shouldn't assume and just ask. But since the beach, for some reason unknown even to the Doctor, was the place the Tardis simply refused to take them, she thought that this, in her opinion, very magical place would be a good substitute. But boy, was she wrong.

"Well, no reason to dwell” she encouraged herself "It's not what I wanted, but I can work with this...Not all was lost" she thought "She will definitely love the lake. What's not to like unless she's scared of sand...surely not? How could she be scared of sand?" Doctor questioned every decision now "I should've asked...why didn't I just ask? ... Oh well...I'll just have to improvise" she cheered up.

They came back quite fast, and as soon as they did, the Doctor took her boots and socks off and grabbed one of the sandwiches from the bag scoffing it in seconds. Yaz was so nervous she didn't feel hungry at all. She was glad they were back at the lake.

"Take your boots off Yaz it's nice" she said cheerfully wiggling her toes over the moss.

The whole ground around the lake was covered in it like a soft carpet. The only thought in Yaz's mind was how she's never seen Doctors toes before, and she was fascinated by the sight. But then she thought to herself how completely idiotic she felt by having those thoughts in her head, almost embarrassed by having them. Then again, the Doctor was constantly covered up from head to toe and she's never seen any part of her except for her hands, that in her mind were absolutely beautiful, and now she had another part of the Doctor to admire because she found that her feet were absolutely adorable as well. Yaz had to stop herself at some point and make herself concentrate on something else because for a moment there she literally thought she's losing her mind. Also, she was so deeply engulfed into her thoughts she didn't even hear Doctor calling her several times

"Yaz!!!...are you alright?" she looked at her concerned while sitting on a rock by the lake

"Ha? ... Oh, yes...sorry...what was that?" Yaz snapped out. She stood by the tent lile the lost lamb

"You look petrified Yaz...are you ok? ... Come sit next to me" she taps the rock next to her

Yaz sat down and took her boots and socks of and started to giggle as soon as her feet touched the ground wiggling her toes "It's like a carpet...it's so soft and squidgy"

"Told ya...it's quite thick the moss around here...all the damp from the lake...it's a perfect environment for it. They both stretched out their legs. "You have cute feet Yaz...don't think I've ever seen your feet before"

"So do you...never seen yours either..."

"Hello Yaz's feet...Nice to meet you" Doctor makes a funny voice tapping her big toe on to Yaz's

"Well, Hello there" Yaz replied in a squeaky voice "Nice to meet you too...how are you, your Lordship?"

Doctor cracked up laughing to Lordship but continued the game

"Oh, you know just hanging around my favorite person in the world...What about you?"

Yaz gulped but made herself continue this bizarre and cute game.

"Me too...But I think I've disappointed my favorite person by being extremely hysterical and ungrateful today" this bizarre game made her for some reason say stuff she normally never would. She was a bit baffled why...but in some way it made it easier

"Oh, nooo...you can never disappoint her...she loves you way too much" she said firmly

Silence ripped through the place. Yaz kept staring at their feet. It was her turn to say something, but words had a difficulty coming out her mouth...Doctor was silent so she made herself talk because alternative would be raising her gaze up to the Doctors eyes and that wasn't the option

"Well...I love her Lordship as well...and I would hate to hurt her feelings" she finally spoke but kept staring at their feet petrified

"Why won't you look at her then?" Doctor asked tapping her big toe again

Yaz slowly lifted her gaze and their eyes met. Doctor smiled only from the corners of her mouth. Looking at her after what's been said was like she was almost thrown into the other world. It was an odd feeling almost as someone else spoke those words. But nevertheless, they were spoken.

"Sorry about that Yaz...psychology...I figured this was the only way either of us would finally say it"

She paused for a moment before replying "Probably..." Yaz said quietly swallowing hard not knowing how to react

They gazed at each other in silence for a moment until Doctor blinked and jumped on her feet as if nothing had happened leaving Yaz utterly confused. She reached out with her hand and shook it as a sign for Yaz to take it. Yaz grabbed hold of her hand again wondering aimlessly with her eyes utterly lost in a situation.

Doctor helped her up while still holding her hand and ran her thumb over it. She went quite and looked down at their hands making one more swipe with her thumb and then laced their fingers together "I do love you Yasmin Khan" she said quietly looking back up again.

Yaz was swallowing marbles...she felt like she's choking "I love you too" She paused gazing at her eyes that were glistening from the water "Your Lordship" she giggled nervously, and Doctor ran her finger down her cheek making her stop smiling. She wrapped her hand around her face and pulled her in inches away from her, stroking her cheek with her thumb, her mouth half open and her eyes closing

"Yaz" she said quietly

"Mmm" she replied incoherently

"Stop calling me Lordship" she whispered smiling from the corner of her lips and kissed her passionately…
